Overview of Role Purpose

Within Amcor Specialty Cartons group, Product Development (PD) has the important role to translate customer product requirements into technical specification, and to provide relevant information/documentation to production locations to enable them to order and use the correct tools and materials needed for New Product Introductions (NPI’s). By creating a smooth technical connection among Customers, Sales and Operations, PD’s responsibility is to guarantee successful NPI’s with long-term cost efficiency, on-time, and in full compliance to customer’s expectations.

The Product Development Manager Asia (PDMA) reports to General Manager, ASCKS & Operation Plus; Safety; Product Development, Asia (or equivalent role), and leads the PD & PrePress team in the region, making sure we have the correct organization, process and objectives in place, to effective deliver PD’s responsibilities according to customer’s and Amcor’s expectations. Global alignment is also key for success, and the PDMA must guard and reinforce the use of Amcor Global Standard processes, working closely with Global Technical Account Managers (GTAMs), as much as other regional PD leaders and Global Manufacturing Team. PDMA also drives Amcor’s Innovation agenda and support regional Sales team on Customer events such as QBR’s, together with Regional Technical Account Managers. This position requires as well close alignment with specific Customer R&D, Quality and Supply Chain teams.
Finally, PDMA also acts to foster collaborative relationship with suppliers from a technical perspective, specially tooling suppliers, making sure Amcor Procurement team will have PD support on technical discussions, reducing risk of leakages to Amcor and supporting the definition and implementation of effective continuous improvement activities (CI).


Key Responsibilities
• Lead PD & PrePress Team across ASC Asia sites, allocating the correct resources to support each account and organizing multiple teams to foster collaboration within the region and with global PD
  • Drive the organization towards standardization, modernization and rationalization of resources
  • Cascade global innovation initiatives and new process implementations
  • Attend customer briefing/kick-off meetings for critical projects and business reviews if required
  • Make customer’s leading technical functions confident with Amcor’s capacity to deliver excellent NPI projects
  • Engage with key supplier roles to promote a mutually supportive environment
  • Monitor major/critical projects, coordinating with various internal and external stakeholders to guarantee effective support to local organization
  • Support technical selling to our Customers
  • Oversee and support critical or regional Continuous Improvement initiatives

Qualifications and Requirements
• Completed technical degree or superior
  • Additional training programs in printing/converting
  • Languages: English (fluent) additional languages advantageous
  • Min 5 years professional experience in Packaging Development activities, preferably in various PrePrint roles with experience on folding cartons business/requirements
  • Sound knowledge of the packaging industry and the FMCG industry with particular experience in collaboration with suppliers, technical development specialists from customers and marketing team
  • 3 years’ experience in project management in an international environment, preferably in the areas of innovation processes and development projects
  • Professional experience in printing industry (focus gravure, offset printing and die-cut technologies)
  • Strong Proficiency in Project Management
  • Good communication skills
  • Independency and accuracy in job execution
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • High expertise in key materials such as board, ink, varnish, foil and tooling
  • Ability to work under time pressure
