About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)
The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality development program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.
The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
About the position
This position is a senior position responsible for high-level policy analysis, research and coordination on economic and bilateral trade issues, including the G20, agricultural trade and halal issues. The officer should possess high-level liaison, interpersonal and advocacy skills. The officer must possess excellent writing and policy skills to draft the full range of policy documentation (cables, minutes, records of conversation, letters, etc.). Further, the officer will manage visit programs for senior government representatives from Australia and requires high-level management and administrative skills to harness resources and coordinate across Embassy agencies and key Indonesian Government stakeholders. As the officer would be expected to work independently across a diverse range of policy and administrative issues, sound judgement and decision-making skills are essential. Given the sensitive nature of some of the issues the officer will be required to work on, an appropriate security clearance is essential.
