The Second Cities team drives the embassy’s outreach efforts in Indonesia’s regions, including Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Bali. Based in Jakarta, the jobholder will lead the expansion of our outreach efforts into Jakarta city government. The main purpose is to deliver on the embassy’s regional engagement strategy with a particular focus at the provincial level of DKI Jakarta. The job holder will develop an extensive network of contacts across a range of sectors including local governments, civil society organisations, the private sector and media. They will provide expert advice on province developments, particularly in the areas of Smart Cities, infrastructure, education, clean energy, digital and tech. The jobholder will also work across embassy teams, helping them to deliver their objectives in Jakarta. This will include facilitating inward visits by UK ministers and senior officials, such as the ambassador, and outward visits to the UK by Jakarta’s leaders and senior officials. The jobholder will report to the Head of the Second Cities team based in the Embassy in Jakarta, also working closely with the Deputy Head of the Second Cities Team.

The job can support flexible working patterns as long as the needs of the embassy are met, e.g. during a visit from the ambassador. Core hours are 09:00-11:00 and 14:00-16:00; outside these hours, we can be flexible as long as the required 39.5 hours (excluding lunch breaks) are met.
