YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

The Peatlands Project Manager will monitor the progress of Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) Prototyping Project activities in tropical peatlands (Brazil and Indonesia). NCS offer nature-based climate change mitigation through protection, sustainable management, and restoration of forests, wetlands, grasslands, and agricultural lands. As part of a larger learning network at TNC, the NCS Prototyping Network, they will connect and regularly engage with global teams and similar projects in multiple global geographies to share information and support peer-to-peer learning.

The Indonesia NCS Prototyping Project aims to quantify greenhouse (GHG) fluxes from peatland restoration in Indonesia located in Sumatra and Kalimantan. The project is implemented by Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara. This position will be an integral part of the Tropical – PCR (Peatland Carbon Research) project team by delivering project management services to take the project through each stage, undertaking all aspects of project planning and monitoring. They will ensure the project plans are delivered at a high standard level. This position reports directly to Forest Carbon and Climate Specialist

This is a termed position scheduled to end December, 2023 with the possibility for extension subject to funding and meeting project outcomes. The location for this position is in Jakarta Indonesia. This is a local, in-country hire. No relocation,visa sponsorship or other immigration assistance is being offered with this position.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Peatlands Project Manager will provide effective and efficient project management support to the Forest Carbon and Climate Specialist and PCR team for peatlands science project implementation in tropical peatlands.

These may include one or more of the following functions:

  • Liaise and develop strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, academic partners, conservation organizations, and/or the private sector.
  • Work closely in collaboration with scientists, finance staff, and TNC and YKAN partners.
  • Develop and implement workplans, manage grants, contracts, and project budgets.
  • Manage and facilitate effective discussion among partners, to implement program and deliver science products.
  • Conduct regular project monitoring, facilitate, and actively participate regular meetings related to project implementation and monitoring.
  • Support the development and implementation of NCS research, especially in the context of the NCS Prototyping Network.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Managing the NCS Peatlands and monitoring the progress of peatland project activities including program implementation and budget monitoring.
  • Managing grants, contract, or proposal requisitions.
  • Managing and maintaining relationship with stakeholders and YKAN’s partners, including consultants, scientists, and vendors.
  • Facilitate effective communication and discussion among partners, to implement program and deliver science products.
  • Review quality and consistency of reports and deliverables by partner institutions/ responsible parties including financial reports from all project partners.
  • Conduct regular project monitoring, facilitate, and actively participate regular meetings related to project implementation and monitoring.
  • Produce and maintain the necessary project management documentation for internal and external partners (e.g. project Brief, Project Plan, reports, policy brief, publication etc.)
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
  • May prepare program materials including presentations, memos, and other communications.
  • Facilitate engagement with stakeholders to support establishment of PCR projects, including designing, preparing, implementing, and evaluating workshops, meetings and events.
  • Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
  • May work flexible schedule and travel frequently throughout the region. Works independently, working with supervisor as needed.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, in hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS degree in related field (such as forestry management, natural resources management, biology, conservation, etc.) with 5 years of experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing staff, project, workloads, and finances under deadlines.
  • Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
  • Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government.
  • Fluency in oral and written both Bahasa Indonesia and English.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in related practice would be advantage
  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience.
  • Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people.
  • Experience preparing reports of findings.
  • Experience and knowledge of climate issues including nature-based mitigation, REDD+, and carbon markets.
  • Experience with peatlands conservation and/or restoration.
  • Experience with monitoring, evaluation, and learning constructs and implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
  • Intimate knowledge, and sensitivity with local and in-country social, economic and political conditions and issues.
  • Experience coordinating complex projects in a decentralized organization, working across teams, operating units and functions to achieve optimal results.
  • Experience in building networks or organizational capacity, facilitating informational sessions, increasing internal knowledge and capacity,
  • Experience identifying key stakeholders and building and maintaining strategic partnerships.
  • Experience in taking initiative and working independently or with minimal oversight.
